In the early days of my exploration journey i was inspired by the grungy nasty HDR images that i was seeing on the exploration forums and Flickr so it was obvious that i was going to travel down this path with my photography………..and I loved it. To be honest i still do but in the last 12 months I have kind of toned down the heavy processing for a more realistic image.

Below are 2 identical images  processed 18mnths apart. I would love to hear your comments and views, which do you guys prefer.

A Different Perspective

It always good to return to a location and totally see it from a new perspective. Totally missed this view on my first visit as I went for the more commonly seen shots of this location.

If you browse through any explorers photo-stream you will undoubtedly come across the lonely chair. The majority of explores have them in one shape or another. An old Asylum will somewhere have a broken down, decaying wheelchair. Hospitals will have some sort of operating chair, a dentist chair perhaps. Whatever shape or form they come in you can guarantee an explorer has photographed it, and I am no different.

As the title says, it’s a cliché but at the same time a classic. All these chairs are some indication of occupancy. The wheelchair would have had someone in it being pushed, the dentist chair would ( if it was me ) have a screaming patient squirming in it.

…and last but by no means least one of my all time fav “Urbex” shots

As long as there is a forlorn chair cast aside in the depths of these dilapidated buildings , there is a shot waiting to go on my photostream.

This post is dedicated to my urbex buddy “Shando”, enjoy dude!!

Critical Out!

Sometimes on an explore the bigger picture seems to take over me and I have to go as wide as possible and try and fit as much as I can into a scene. With these shots i busted out the 50mm and tried to grab a few details, which mean just as much as the abandoned corridor or the empty room.

These were all from an abandoned school which had some really cool rooms with stuff to get my teeth into. I don’t really get the 50 out as much as I like or should, will that change? I don’t know……..we’ll just have to wait and see.

Critical Out!

After checking out the new phlegm piece as seen in my previous post I took a trip to the abandoned tool factory to check out the Rocket01 pieces. I hear the security guard at this place can be a bit hit and miss, sometimes he’ll show explorers round other times not, so to eliminate the risk of an early bath stealth was deployed and I entered the back way :).

There was a bit of activity but a shufty here and slide there and I was into the main building where the art is. After that it was a nice relaxed mooch sniffing out the pieces. that is until I was on my way out and almost bumped into him inside!! I think he must have been a bit deaf as a slammed door and hectic footsteps led to no chase.

Anyhow, no more drivvle from me….on with the shots!!

Enjoy!

There was more inside and I’ll probably upload in another post.

Critical Out!!

An old hotel on the outskirts of the city, taken over by some amazing artists. These guys have a skill and talent i could only ever dream of.

It was an early morning start so managed to watch the sunrise over the city before the days shooting began.

Inside was no disappointment, some awesome pieces from some of the city’s finest. Phlegm, Rocket01, Fauna, Kid Acne and more can be found on all levels of the hotel.

I spent a good few hours here seeking out all the pieces, I still think I missed one or two!!
